Bikers, Skaters and Paddlers Take Over South LA

Bikers, skaters and street paddlers paraded through the streets of South Los Angeles. The group gathered to support sickle cell awareness during the 12th annual Inner City Mini Marathon & Health Festival. With a Los Angeles Police Department guided caravan, supporters we able to tackle the 18 mile mini marathon with ease and safety.
Jessie Owens Park served as the redezvous point for all participants and bike clubs like Black Girls Do Bike and skateboard companys like Left Coast Longboarding. The caravan enjoyed a down hill slope heading north on Western Blvd. then over to Crenshaw Blvd. via Manchester Ave. The police caravan was an unusual site for many skaters, usually the Black & White are trying to stop skateboarders from skateboarding.
As we merged onto Martin Luther King Blvd. we approached our first water break. From then we made our way to Ted Watkins Park, the next water station that also served oranges and strawberries. Conveniently located at this park were a skatepark and farmers market for anyone hungry for more. Finally, we scaled back uphill toward Jessie Owens Park finishing off the 18 mile ride with goody bags and free McDonalds Smoothies.
